Interesting! The journalist mentions many reasons to wear higab, all related to the opinion of other people! For her, higab has all to do with acceptance by others, not with pleasing Allah. And the niqabiyya feels a place seperated for women is more free... What, are men the prison guards of women? That is a reality which should be confronted instead of avoided by wearing niqab. I love the girl who chose her own way with sharp and candid reasoning! I wish there were more like her!

I think it would be nice if there was an equivilant in the US so that men wouldn't pay attention to women as much...or if there were restaurants (some restaurants...not alot) just for women. It would be a little freeing.

why did nora's husband think it was a bad idea to tell of how she loved music and the piano? the journalist definitely made the most sense; she made her decision and stuck to it. it is a personal one yet social and religious and she explians it very well. the girl that chose to stop wearing it was very honest and i think people should commend her for that; it is true that you can be a good person irregards to religion, and be a bad person even if you know the bible or the koran off by heart.

I think she is just talking about de-sexualizing the woman,so men don't flirt leading to other things. Arab culture is very concerned with "Honor",a woman who doesn't allow herself to appear flirtatious is keeping with that honor. she is talking about protecting herself from people projecting thoughts of what kind of person she could be. wearing a hijab in an Arab society gives a signal that this woman is of religion and thus pious, virginal, and of honor.Plus, Rapists aren't usually selective.

I sincerely don't mean to cause offense with the question below. Toward the end, the journalist with the head scarf says, "...in order for a woman to preserve her [virginity], she is not supposed to be sexy and arouse men's interest. Westerners don't have this problem. She has nothing to preserve or to fear losing. I am convinced that the hijab protects me from a lot of things." Is she talking about flirtation and the temptation to have consensual intercourse, or is she talking about rape?

mashallah the sister in niqab. im proud of women liek her who do it for allah. subhanaallah. and her baby was soooo adorable mashallah :) that otehr giril is very lost her reasoning behind not wearign hijab was very superficial obviously inlove with her self. she values teh dounia she doenst truely believe in allah or that their is a life after death. some egyptian girls are very religious and know islam well and tehy are the nicest people. but then you have teh arragont ones too. :)

really sad when muslims want dunia more than the hereafter. when muslims dont read what their religion says, but goes with what the people around them say and do. you arab/african/euroepan/ whatever CULTURE and norms IS NOT ISLAM. pick up a book learn about Muhammad saaw and his wives THESE are our role models. NOT mtv.
