She sings "this flame you put in this eskimo". I always thought she meant her state of mind, but well.. she has some Norwegian-Samean origins doesn't she? So she is referring to herself as well.

What is a God? Someone you worship, fear, obey? If that's so Americans worship the God of `the system' everyday while the system kills the world and feeds the system that Americans call patriotism.

i have been a bass player for over 25 years and i am very familiar with both jaco and joni's music and i have to say that this is some of jaco's finest playing. i have been listening to this for years and i am still struck by the stark beauty of the music and the loving way the music is treated by all of the musicians. i love jaco's jazz and fusion stuff as well but this is a testament to the fact that really understood music and how/how not to play. i wonder what he would be doing today.
