You don't need mountain climbing experience. It is more of a walk. Just take your time and drink plenty of water. We took the 6 day machame route which allows more time to get used to the altitude. It cost us $960 USD to climb. $630 was for the park fee alone. We had a group of 7 people and could negotiate a good price, (plus we climbed in low season, so our rate was lower) at Kessey Brothers Tours in Moshi. They were fantastic!

Brilliant video. I'm considering going in January but I have little mountain climbing experiance. Which route did you take? And did it cost a lot?

I think that you might be thinking of Kenya. Tanzania is quite safe and I just looked at the state departments website just to make sure that I wasn't posting wrong information and no mention of Tanzania. so go for it! you can climb Kili, go to the Serengeti and fly off to Zanzibar in an incredible country that is safe and friendly:)

Looks so beautiful. Unfortunately we were going to go but the State Department says its too dangerous for tourist right now. To much political upheaval going on now. Hopefully in 5 years it will be safe again.
